On my trip out to Ohio, I had trailered the Screamer nice and snug atop
Kermit. Since it was a hot and all-around ugly day and the I-8x
interstates have more dirt and dust than you can shake a California Duster
at, I put my nylon car cover over the Screamer and secured it at six points
to the trailer. Things were going great until I got on the Mass Pike. All
heck broke loose. One of the seams on the cover split. Of course this
allowed all the tension in the tie-downs to become loose and start moving
back and forth. Unfortunately, I didn't know it had come apart until I was
informed by a trucker that my car cover was blowing off the car. Pulled
over on the shoulder and looked at the Screamer. I could have cried. The
chaffing caused by the flapping of what fabric was left almost wore holes
in both the front and rear bumper covers. And one of the bungie hooks got
caught under the flapping cover and scratched the headlight lens. Needless
to say, I'm not a happy camper and I only have myself to blame. I should
never have towed the car with a fabric cover in place. Well, I guess I
need to call Warren at Roebucks (anybody have his number?) and see what
it's going to set me back for a couple of fascias (or is it fasciae, or
... bumper covers!) and a headlight lens. So, until I get a hard shell
trailer, Screamer rides naked. It's easier (and cheaper) to wash and wax
than it is to repair and paint. :-)
One good thing though.... Everyday was a top down day for the 40+ miles I
had to travel each way from Mercer to Youngstown. Northwestern PA has some
nice roads. Wish I could say the same for Northeastern Ohio. :-)
